Learn about the five sustainable productive projects that will benefit 1,100 families in the Amazon region of Colombia.

The Visión Amazonía program and the Sustainable Colombia Fund will co-finance five sustainable productive projects in the Amazon region, which will benefit more than 1,100 families in the region.

This strategy oriented by the Environment portfolio seeks to stimulate the conservation of ecosystems by the communities that inhabit this area, at the same time as it seeks to boost economic reactivation among these inhabitants.

The families that benefit from these productive projects will sign agreements for the conservation of 7,500 hectares of forest, demonstrating that the principle promoted by the national government and the Ministry of the Environment of conserving by producing and producing by conserving is possible.

Of the five projects established, four will be developed in the department of Caquetá, focusing on livestock renewal, improving competitiveness in the Sacha Inchi production chain, strengthening rubber-producing agricultural systems, and implementing a sustainable model for the production of Tahitian lemons.

The last project will be carried out in Putumayo, focused on the development of activities with chontaduro palm heart, banana, asaí, cacao, melipona bees, among others, explained the general coordinator of the Visión Amazonía program, Yunis Mubarak.

«The value of the five projects amounts to some $13.86 billion, which includes contributions from the Sustainable Colombia Fund ($9900 million) and Vision Amazonia ($3960 million), as well as the important inputs and labor provided by the communities, as a counterpart,» said the Minister of Agriculture, Rodolfo Zea.

«These synergies between entities such as the Ministries of Agriculture and Environment, the Sustainable Colombia Fund and Visión Amazonía demonstrate once again that the country is on the right path in terms of development and sustainability,» said the director of the Sustainable Colombia Fund, Mary Gómez.

Currently, science, industrialization and the national government are beginning to create and implement nature preservation policies, but this has not been enough to prevent illegal mining, oil extraction, deforestation and extensive cattle ranching in the Colombian Amazon rainforest.
