Did you know we were featured in IES’s latest article? This milestone not only marks a turning point for sustainable construction in Colombia, but also caught the attention of one of the world’s leading energy modeling software companies.

Green Loop is proud to announce its key role in the development of Colombia’s first National Energy Code for new buildings, a groundbreaking regulatory framework for the country. Our work was recently highlighted by IES Ltd., creators of the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) software, in an official case study that recognized the scale and impact of our contribution.
The Challenge: Building the Energy Foundation of Colombia’s Future
In 2019, Colombia’s Ministry of Housing entrusted Green Loop with conducting a nationwide comparative analysis to determine the minimum standards for energy efficiency in buildings. We were selected as the only consultancy in Colombia with proven experience in large-scale energy simulation.

Using the IESVE platform, we developed over 1,300 independent energy models covering a wide range of building types and climatic conditions across the country. This approach allowed us to capture, with unprecedented technical precision, the real performance and energy consumption needs of Colombian buildings.
How Did We Do It? IESVE as the Simulation Engine
The IESVE software was fundamental in modeling and comparing energy performance across all of Colombia’s bioclimatic zones. Its powerful simulation capabilities allowed us to evaluate critical variables such as thermal insulation, air infiltration, HVAC efficiency, and more.
IES Ltd. featured this project in its most recent case study, emphasizing the scale, depth, and complexity of the modeling work led by Green Loop, as well as the project’s national regulatory significance.
“The scale of this modeling effort—over 1,300 simulations—represents one of the most advanced IESVE-based energy modeling exercises in Latin America.”

National and International Impact
- First national energy regulation in Colombia based on advanced building simulation
- Establishes a benchmark comparable with international energy codes
- Supports Colombia’s energy transition by setting mandatory efficiency standards for all new construction
Recognized by a Global Leader in Energy Simulation

The article published by IES Ltd. not only validates the technical rigor of our work, but also positions Green Loop as a regional leader in the use of digital tools for public policy development. This international recognition paves the way for future partnerships with governments, development agencies, and forward-thinking companies in the built environment sector.
