At Asobancaria’s fourth Sustainability meeting, the president of the association, Hernando José Gómez, and President Iván Duque announced the renewal of the Green Protocol, 10 years after its creation. The purpose of this is to protect the environment, as well as to contribute to the sustainable development of the country.
The agreement between the National Government and the financial sector, which represents the 25 entities adhered to the protocol, establishes bilateral commitments and outlines a roadmap to contribute to the environmental and climate agenda, global sustainability trends, existing regulations and the needs demanded by the market and the different interest groups.
The current protocol includes four lines of work focused on promoting an offer of sustainable financial products and services that integrate the environmental component, supporting member entities in implementing the Environmental and Social Risk Analysis System (Saras), promoting good environmental practices in the eco-efficient management of resources, and disclosing environmental issues in the entities’ sustainability reports.
he renewal of the protocol for the 2022-2027 period includes the comprehensive management of climate change as the fifth strategy, which is being worked on through initiatives such as the net-zero emission route, green business workshops, green taxonomy pilots, the project to measure financed emissions and climate risks.
«There are important challenges ahead that we will assume to mobilize sustainable and climate finance in the banking sector, implementing actions that support the objectives of mitigation and adaptation to climate change, and the environmental challenges inherent to the Colombian reality, where the financial sector has been involved to provide solutions,» said Hernando José Gómez, president of Asobancaria.
