The true impact of a supermarket isn’t in what it sells, it’s in how it operates.

Makro Floridablanca demonstrates how commercial spaces can evolve into more efficient, responsible, and high-performance assets. Located in Bucaramanga and developed under LEED Gold standards, the project integrates sustainability strategies from the outset to optimize operational performance while minimizing environmental impact. Beyond its retail function, the store enhances the user experience through features like 228 m² of green walls, creating a stronger connection between people and nature.

From a technical standpoint, the project prioritizes resource efficiency and occupant comfort. A bioclimatic design that combines natural ventilation with high-efficiency HVAC systems delivers energy savings of approximately 30%, while LED lighting reduces consumption by up to 68% compared to international benchmarks. Water efficiency is achieved through low-flow fixtures and rainwater harvesting systems that supply 100% of the demand for restrooms and irrigation, generating significant annual savings.

In addition, the project incorporates sustainable mobility strategies, including bicycle parking and preferred spaces for carpooling, as well as strong waste management practices—recycling over 95% of construction waste. Careful material selection with low VOC content, along with advanced air quality monitoring systems, ensures a healthy indoor environment. Makro Floridablanca proves that large-scale retail can successfully combine operational efficiency, user experience, and measurable sustainability outcomes.
