LEED Advisory and Bioclimatic Design
SURA, proof that sustainability stops being a requirement when it’s integrated from the design stage.
Located in Barranquilla and developed by Arquitectura y Concreto S.A.S., this project embodies a vision where environmental performance and operational efficiency are embedded from the outset. Achieving LEED v4 BD+C: New Construction Silver certification, with 58 points, reflects a rigorous process of planning, execution, and validation. Green Loop supported the project through LEED advisory, bioclimatic design, and documentation management, including coordination with entities such as UPME and ANLA to secure tax incentives tied to sustainability.
From a technical perspective, the project integrates strategies aimed at optimizing resource consumption and enhancing occupant comfort. Through bioclimatic design, the building was adapted to Barranquilla’s climate, reducing energy demand and improving thermal performance. These decisions are complemented by efficient systems that deliver 22.2% energy savings and 36.61% water savings, along with the integration of renewable energy sources that supply 4.67% of the building’s total demand.
Additionally, the project stands out for its use of sustainable materials, which account for 21.2% of the total, reinforcing its positive environmental impact from construction through operation. Beyond the metrics, SURA Barranquilla demonstrates how a well-structured strategy not only meets international standards but also generates economic value through operational efficiencies and tax incentives. It is a clear example of how sustainability, when embedded from the beginning, becomes a driver of performance, profitability, and well-being.
